Between 1951 and 1956, ass. prof. RNDr. Ing. Jindřich Chmelař, DrSc. carried out extensive survey in the Mionší reserve. He established two permanent research plots (PRP) with sizes 2.43 ha and 5.23 ha, and 10 PRP with size 20x20 m for a more detailed survey of some variables, particularly regeneration of fir and spectral composition of light in the stand, etc. (CHMELAŘ 1957, 1958, 1959). He conducted a geodetic survey of all trees with d1.3 = 7 cm and above on two larger plots. Then he constructed a detailed map of these plots at a scale 1:500 and a detailed registry of all surveyed trees. On ten smaller PRP (out of which 5 were in the “large” PRP or in their near vicinity, 1 was outside the reserve in spruce monoculture and four were in the reserve but completely outside of “large” PRP) he carried out a detail survey about seedling development with a special focus on fir. Primary data from the original surveys are at the Department of Forest Botany, Dendrology and Typology of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno.

Between 2003 and 2004 a united team from Nature Conservation Agency and Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Mendel University in Brno, identified PRP “A” with the area of 2.53 ha and carried out repeated surveys after 50 years.
