The Brno department of the Landscape Research Institute organized a workshop for the BioReMo project partners and their guests, focusing on the presentation of methods used in the long-term monitoring of forest habitats. The event took place on October 8 at the National Park Podyjí Forest Management Office in Podmolí. Morning lectures on methods for collecting and evaluating forestry data were followed by practical demonstrations of how various technologies can be used directly in the field. We believe that this joint event further strengthened the existing interest in creating a unified system for forest habitats monitoring in the neighboring Podyjí and Thayatal National Parks. The lively discussion on the topics presented serves as ample evidence of this.

The May meeting of representatives from the Czech and Austrian partners of the Interreg AT-CZ BioReMo project took place in the pleasant surroundings of the renovated school in Havraníky, in the Podyjí region. Among other things, the purpose of the meeting was to brief the partners on the progress of work on implementing the activities planned for the project’s second year. For the Landscape Research Institute, these activities primarily involve testing methods for collecting forestry data in accordance with the established methodology for monitoring forest habitats.

During the spring months of this year, detailed dendrometric measurements of standing and fallen tree trunks were conducted at selected sites in the Podyjí National Park and the Thayatal National Park. For this purpose, projects for these sites were created in QGIS based on data obtained through aerial and ground-based scanning. Currently, observations are being conducted at these sites to monitor the development of selected components of forest biodiversity. We plan to present the results of our research as early as September at a scientific conference organized by our project partner, the Podyjí National Park.

The 4th dendrometry census at Velká Pleš natural forest (8.95ha) has started. All living and dead (standing and lying) stems with diameter of 100mm+ would be remeasured/added into datasets.
Repeated detailed census has started at 8 sites inside the Podyjí National Park core zones. Two sites (Lipina, Šobes) represent long term research, six small-size sites the icy disturbance (2014).
The 3rd detailed tree census has started at core area of Ranšpurk natural forest (2015, 2020, 2025). All standing stems with diameter of 10mm and all lying stems with diameter of 100mm should be remeasured. Generally, it would be the 6th dendrometry census at Ranšpurk site (1973, 1994, 2006...).

The 4th tree census (1975, 1995, 2011, 2024) in Zakova hora Natural Forest (17,44 ha) was accomplished. Both alive and dead stems with diameter of 100mm+ have been revisited.
We finished 4th tree census (1975, 1997, 2008, 2022) in Zofin Primeval Forest (74,20 ha) on late spring. Both alive and dead stems with diameter of 100mm+ have been revisited. Also 3rd tree census (2012, 2017, 2022) on ForestGEO Zofin Dynamics Plot we did within this campaing. All stems with diameter of 10mm+ are under registration.
Having had successful PhD thesis defense Spatio-temporal patterns of woody regeneration in natural temperate forests, Jan Holík finished his doctoral studies in the field of Forest Ecology at Mendel University in Brno. Congratulations!
